How to download Instagram or Tiktok Audio?

Capturing audio from trending reels on Instagram or TikTok can be a useful tool for getting more views and becoming trending on these social media platforms. However, it’s important to note that the audio on these platforms is licensed to the platforms by the musicians and therefor is protected from download. This means that you arn’t usually allowed to simply download the audio from the platforms. That said i’ll be demonstrating a workaround that should fall within the legal.  Instagram is slightly more complicated so i’l be demostrating that, Tiktok should mostly be the same concept.

How to capture any Audio
for Personal Use
While it is within legal boundaries to temporarily capture audio for personal use on a project as long as you don’t share it with anyone (please note that this is not legal advice), it’s important to respect the copyright of the audio.

If you want to capture audio from any existing video that is already out there, there are a few tools you can use on your computer or phone. One simple option is to use a 3rd party website to download the audio file they simply provide. We don’t recommend these as it can always infect your machine with maleficent files. Here is one i found that looked promising if you really insist.

Alternatively, you can use a capture tool like the built-in Nvidia capture tool (Alt+F9 on Windows) or use a add-on for Chrome called “Chrome Capture Interface,”  To do this simply share the post link from your phone to your computer, open the web page, and start capturing.  It’s best to use a simple MOV or MP4 file for video file, or a 320kbps MP3 or WAV file if you are capturing just the audio. You can then strip the audio from the video in your video editing program, such as Premiere or Davinci Resolve, and use the audio in your edit.

For a more advanced option, you can use the Realtek stereo mix input device to capture the audio. This device feeds the audio from your sound card back in as an input, which can be selected as a recording input in most professional audio software like Adobe Audition. Simply set the input to “stereo mix” and play the audio from the webpage, then hit record. Just be careful not to output the audio again or you may create a feedback loop that could potentially get very loud. So make sure to mute the output on the track when recording.

Capturing on your phone
If you want to use a new section of audio or a different song altogether, you can search for it in the search bar on Instagram or save it from an existing video and create a new video by selecting “use audio.” This starts a new reel, which you should fill with a placeholder video, set the duration and start of the audio, and save it as a draft for later. This way, you can keep your initial time settings for the audio for later. At this point, there is no option to head over to your computer, so you need to capture the audio on your phone.

TIP; If you don’t find this to work or don’t have any editing tools, check if your profile is set to be a ‘professional’ person / video editor under ‘category’. Set the category to something other then none. This brought my instagram editing tools to life !

Luckily, most modern devices come with built-in capture software (which you may need to simply enable). Hit record, save your file, and send it to your computer using a file sharing service like Airdrop, Slack, WeTransfer, or Google Drive.

TIP: Keep in mind that the audio quality may not be as important in most cases, unless things get difficult. If you make a mistake with the Instagram audio start, you may not be able to get that exact point back, so it’s a good idea to have a good initial recording as a backup.

Once you have finished editing the video, render it with the audio, then transfer it back to your phone. Simply upload your edited video to Instagram, edit the previous draft, and swap out the temp video for the final video. You can now balance both the music and video audio separately by clicking on the note icon. This allows you to use the existing audio from your video or use the high-quality original audio from the artist. We suggest you use the artist’s music.

TIP: It may NOT be a good idea to set the artist’s music volume to zero as Instagram might think you aren’t using the trend and discard your video from it.
